Are You Ready ? - August 2019

We are ready we think- so many things to be ready for – but here are but a few

Our summer fete on the 24th August – bring all your best money to buy some of the amazing cakes and fabulous bits and bobs we gather, we might even let one of our specially produced turtles leave the building at the right price.

Our annual Jumpers for Goalposts premier league sweepstake has been set for the coming season – can June (Man City last season) retain the Pottles Cup this season with Everton?

We played a big part in the recent TED style event at a filmed and streamed event with lots of NHS and care home staff in Exeter where we spoke about Funguarding as being just as important as Safeguarding – we are now writing an article with 3 highly regarded doctors and another Scottish care home leader soon the be published in the British Geriatric Society journal – so get ready for seeing this and having more fun than ever we feel.

Our CQC inspection where we were awarded Outstanding by our inspector Louise took place in September 2017 – we have had notice that they may be due to come again – so we want to be more than ready to let them see if anything we are even better at what we do than we were then – your help will be invaluable in supporting us – so….Offer any suggestions for improvements if you can, help us with décor, atmosphere and environment is vitally important, staff being proud, kind, keen, curious and charmingly cheerful – we really do try – it pretty much comes naturally we think !!

Dare we mention Brexit – we don’t want to panic or be complacent so we are thinking ahead about what this means for us – we are planning a meeting in September to share our views on this – our next Residents and Guest meeting on the 26th September will update everyone on what we are doing regarding any risks to food stocks, access to medication and all other possible effects of leaving Europe – we are being very open minded and positive about readiness for the future but want your thoughts too

Our numerous quizzes, crosswords and ‘discovery conversations’ (based on the view that we can learn something we didn’t know already every time we chat with each other) has included not just the so called serious detail of preferences about getting a good night’s sleep – but also what your favourite biscuit is? – Hobnobs did pretty well in the most recent survey – so Hobnobs will be bought in bulk at least until we check again!
